March 10: 'Passport Day in the USA'

On Saturday, March 10, the Postal Service and the U.S. Department of State will host the fourth annual “Passport Day in the USA.”  Along with the StateDepartment’s 23 regional passport offices, more than 1,000 Post Offices arescheduled to host passport events for Americans planning to travel.Participating South Florida Post Officesinclude:

Currently all U.S. citizens mustshow proof of identity and proof of U.S.citizenship whenentering the United Statesfrom Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the countries of the Caribbean by land and sea.  U.S. citizens entering the United Statesat sea and land ports of entry are required to have a passport or passport card. 

Here's what you'll need:

1.  Proof of American citizenship or naturalization (a state-issued certified birthcertificate, a previous offi­cial passport, or a naturalization certificate ifyou are foreign-born);
2.  One officially acceptable state or government photo ID (a driver’s license or militaryID); 
3.  One recent photograph that meets specific passport requirements (available atparticipating Post Offices for $15); and 
4.  Passport application, which can be downloaded and should be completed prior tovisiting the Post Office (available at www.travel.state.gov).  Please donot sign the form ahead of time.
U.S. citizens also may obtain passportinformation by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Centertoll-free at 1-877-487-2778.
